Plantar fasciitis is inflammation/irritation of the plantar fascia (cord like structure which attaches to the heel bone and fans out towards your toes) and commonly presents as pain in the heel, first thing in the morning, or after rest. It is the most common complaint we see as Podiatrists, with statistics saying as many as 1 in 10 people will suffer with this problem once in their lifetime.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis can be attributed to (but not limited to):

There are several causes for plantar fasciitis but some of the common causes include;

Poor Footwear
Flat Feet
Sudden Change of Activity
Excessively High Arches
Achilles/Calf Tightness
Weight Gain

Plantar fasciitis can sometimes take up to 12 months to resolve, and it is common for people to re-develop the injury again. the sooner treatment is sought for this injury, often the quicker it will heal. A Podiatrist will help to treat the inflammation, to reduce the pain, as well as long term management to try and prevent re-occurrence of the injury.
